Welcome to the web page of the Perth Branch of
the Royal Aeronautical Society, Australian Division. This is the newest branch of the
Australian Division of the Society and was inaugurated on 19th June 2002.
The aims of the branch are to provide a forum
for all West Australians interested in aviation to meet, attend lectures and events of
interest and to become involved and more informed in the art and science of flight.
Aviation has been an essential part of the transport system since 1920 when the first
schedules airline in Australia was established by Sir Norman Brearley. The vast
distances travelled within the State have necessitated the use of unscheduled services and
private aircraft for duties as varied as air ambulances, mustering, business travel and
tourism.
Western Australia does not have a large aeronautical manufacturing base, but the needs
of operators have generated support for many small maintenance and modification
facilities.
The Branch has sought to recognize the many facets of the industry through visits to
facilities, including the RAAF base, facilities at Jandakot airport and hosting speakers
on historical and technical matters.
Anyone interested in aviation is invited to contact a committee member:
