Aerospace Fellowship

The Australian Division is pleased to announce the establishment of an annual bursary of up to $10,000 to support an aerospace research, policy, education or outreach program within Australia.

The Australian Division (AD) of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) is pleased to announce the establishment of an annual bursary to support an aerospace research, policy, education or outreach program within Australia. Up to $10,000 will be available for the recipient, who will hold the Aerospace Fellowship for one year.

The objective of the Aerospace Fellowship is to further the objectives of the RAeS AD, which includes the general advancement of aeronautical art, science and engineering; to promote the aeronautics/ astronautics profession; to provide positive outcomes for industry and to provide positive exposure for the Society and the Aerospace Fellowship project.

Terms of Entry

Applicants may be from any field of aerospace within Australia, and are not restricted to academics, graduates or other specialists. Applicants must be Australian citizens or Residents for the duration of the Aerospace Fellowship. The recipient shall be at least an Affiliate Student financial member of the society prior to applying and shall sustain membership for the duration of the Aerospace Fellowship.

Applications

Applications are to be comprehensive and to set out in writing alignment with the Aerospace Fellowship Objectives, the intended process, outcome, milestones and intended partnerships, if any. A budget, including expenditure assumptions and other proposed sources of funding (where the applicant is seeking funds from sources in addition to the Aerospace Fellowship) is also to be provided to enable adequate financial assessment.

Deliverables

The recipient of the Aerospace Fellowship will be required to deliver a written piece of work or report to the AD Council and is expected to publish the work, acknowledging the RAeS AD, and will also provide a shortened version for publication by the Society. Part of the deliverable may be an event or series of events organised by the recipient to promote and disseminate the results of the work, including presentations to AD Branch meetings.  The recipient is to make quarterly reports on progress to the AD, providing evidence of work completed to milestones. Intellectual Property rights for the work will remain the property of the recipient or his/her employer.

Selection Process

Submissions will be assessed and no more than one successful applicant chosen to receive the bursary by a committee of the AD Council, which shall include at least two from an academic background. Independent experts may be appointed by the committee to provide specialist skills. The committee will make a recommendation to the AD Council. The selection of the recipient will be final.

Nominations will close on Friday 15 July 2011. No late applications will be accepted.
