Professional Recognition
Membership of the Royal Aeronautical Society gives you worldwide professional recognition and the right to use post nominal designations at the appropriate grades. By achieving Society membership, your status is acknowledged throughout the entire community. Membership is also a route to gaining registration as a CEng, IEng or Eng Tech.
In addition, professional recognition and international acknowledgement of excellence and achievement is provided via the Society’s prestigious Medals and Awards programme. These honours are presented annually to individuals who have made a significant contribution to aerospace.
Keeping you informed
Aerospace International is the Society’s monthly magazine packed with in-depth news, topical articles, conference reports, new products, services and contracts, and is delivered to all members free of charge.
The Aerospace Professional monthly newsletter is dedicated to news of Society members and important developments within the Society and it, too, is complimentary for Society members.
The Aeronautical Journal contains technical papers and is offered to members at a substantial discount. Sets of Society Conference Proceedings are also available at a concessionary rate for members.
Australian Aeronautics is published bi–annually and contains papers and articles written by authors with Australian connections on subjects relating to Australian aeronautical and aerospace issues.
The Australian Division and UK Society websites enable members to keep up with the latest developments in the industry through dedicated news services and web links. Everything you need to know about the Society is available via the website, including comprehensive membership, careers and professional development information.
Professional Development
Valuable Professional Development is derived from the Society’s international Conference and Lecture Programme. The Society attracts high profile delegates and speakers from a wide range of backgrounds – industry, government and academia, in both civil and military arenas – to provide a source of ideas and thought-provoking discussion. Society members have free access to all lectures.
Tangible benefits are also derived from the RAeS status as a Technical Society of Engineers Australia
Professional Network
The Society provides numerous opportunities for networking and exchange of views with other likeminded professionals. We are proud of the fact that we are the home for all aerospace and aviation professionals, regardless of their field of work – military / civil, general aviation / commercial air transport, operations / manufacturing. The membership profile is drawn from all aerospace and aviation disciplines including engineering, aircrew, aviation medicine, air traffic control, law and procurement to name but a few.
You will get the most out of your membership if you want to play an active part in the Society by attending events and participating in Branch activities. Branch committee membership is open to members as is the opportunity to serve on the Australian Division Council.
Branch Involvement
Branches are the Society’s local presence and they are encouraged to establish relationships with aerospace organisations in the vicinity. As a result, members have unparalleled opportunities to interact with other professionals and get involved with Society activities in the area. In addition, Branch initiatives promote and focus attention on local aerospace issues.
Centennial Scholarship Fund
The Centennial Scholarship Fund was created in 2003 to reward endeavour and achievement in aerospace and aviation across the globe – from help with university tuition fees through research grants to bursaries for trainee pilots, to name but a few proposed awards. To date numerous scholarships have been awarded to Australian applicants from QUT, RMIT and UNSW
