Membership Grades

Membership Grades

There are six grades of membership and the Society welcomes everybody, from those who are just interested in aviation to chief executives of multinational companies.

Affiliate

For all those interested in aerospace including students and undergraduates; it is suitable for:

  • Anyone in full-time study intending to follow a career in aerospace
  • Anyone associated with, or interested in, aerospace

Associate (ARAeS)

This grade is open to applications from those with one of the following qualifications:

  • A degree or equivalent
  • National Vocational Qualification Level 3 or equivalent (such as a BTEC National Certificate), along with two years' practical training and one year's relevant work experience
  • If you are a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer holding a UK CAA License without type rating, or equivalent, and have held the license for two years

Associate Member (AMRAeS)

You can apply as an Associate Member if your qualifications or experience are covered by one of the following:

  • An Honours degree or equivalent and two years' professional development
  • National /Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 4 or equivalent (such as a BTEC Higher National Certificate) or an ordinary degree along with two years' practical training and three year's relevant work experience at a relevant level of responsibility
  • Ten years' appropriate experience
  • If you are a Licensed Aircraft Engineer holding a UK CAA license with type rating, or equivalent for 3 years, or have appropriate company approvals, and two years work experience involving supervisory and/or technical administration

Applicants for AMRAeS may also be eligible to apply for EngTech or IEng.

Member (MRAeS)

There are two ways to qualify as a Member:

  • If you have an academic or vocational qualification acceptable to Council, normally this would be an Honours degree, along with two years' postgraduate training and a further two years' experience at an appropriate level of responsibility
  • Or at least seven years appropriate work experience in a position of responsibility at a level appropriate to the class of Member

Applicants for MRAeS may also be eligible to apply for CEng, IEng or EngTech.

Fellow (FRAeS)

Fellowship is the highest grade attainable and is only bestowed upon those in the profession of aeronautics or aerospace who have achieved one of the following

  • Made outstanding contributions
    Attained a position of high responsibility
    Have had long experience of high quality

Companion (CRAeS)

Companionship is granted to those who are of valuable service to the profession of aeronautics but do not qualify for the grade of Fellow. An example would be senior executives moving into the industry from other sectors later in their careers.

The grades of membership reflect different degrees of involvement and achievement. In general the information is equally applicable to Australian Division. Where there is doubt reference can be made to the Division through the Australian Division's Administration Officer.
