About

First launched in Australia in 2009 and based on the very successful program established in the UK, Cool Aeronautics is the Royal Aeronautical Society’s STEM outreach program that aims to introduce school children and the public to the fascinating world and people of flying, aerospace engineering, and space. These activities represent a crucial part of the Society’s efforts to provide a ‘through-life’ approach to its outreach and careers activities. In particular, Cool Aeronautics embodies the Society’s aim to ‘promote aerospace and aviation to a new generation’.

The RAeS Australian Division works with other professional organisations (AIAA) and educational partners (UNSW) to offer a range of Cool Aeronautics activities in STEM outreach. These include visits to schools, interactive activities at community events and day-long events for invited schools.

Cool Aeronautics Needs You!

We welcome interest from schools and community groups to run one of our STEM Workshops or Immersion Programs. The Cool Aeronautics Workshops are also offered at aviation places of interest including aviation museums, flight schools and airports.

Currently we offer workshops in the following Aerospace fields:

  • The STEM of Aircraft Propulsion
  • The STEM of Flight
  • The STEM of Space Flight

Workshops are suitable for grades 6 - 12 and include both theory and practical applications. During these sessions students are encouraged to question, explore and experience the exciting world of aerospace.
