In addition, professional recognition and international acknowledgement of excellence and achievement is provided via the Society’s prestigious Medals and Awards programme. These honours are presented annually to individuals who have made a significant contribution to aerospace. Membership is also a route to gaining registration as a CEng, IEng or Eng Tech.

The Society’s conference and lecture programmes are aimed at your professional development and attract high profile delegates and speakers. Society members have free and preferential access to lectures and concessional rates on conference fees. The Society attracts high profile delegates and speakers from a wide range of backgrounds – industry, government and academia, in both civil and military arenas – to provide a source of ideas and thought-provoking discussion. Society members have free access to all lectures. Tangible benefits are also derived from the RAeS status as a Technical Society of Engineers Australia.
The Royal Aeronautical Society Australian Division (RAeS AD) is recognised as a Technical Society of Engineers Australia (EA) and the general area of practice of Aerospace Engineering is the responsibility of a Joint Board of EA and RAeS AD. A Mutual Recognition Agreement with EA facilitates recognition of Chartered status and registration on Australia’s Professional Engineers Register. Agreements also cover accreditation of University courses, Professional Development and joint conferences.
The Society’s social media activities, events, Specialist Groups, Committees, Branches and Divisions provide unparalleled opportunities for you to network and exchange views internationally, nationally and locally. The Society provides numerous opportunities for networking and exchange of views with other likeminded professionals. We are proud to be a home for all aerospace and aviation professionals, regardless of their field of work – military or civil, general aviation or commercial air transport, operations or manufacturing. The membership profile is drawn from all aerospace and aviation disciplines including engineering, aircrew, aviation medicine, air traffic control, law and procurement to name but a few.
You will get the most out of your membership if you want to play an active part in the Society by attending events and participating in Branch activities. Branch committee membership is open to members as is the opportunity to serve on the Australian Division Council.

Students undertaking full time studies and intending to follow a career in aerospace, qualify for a concessional Australian Division membership rate that provides access to the full range of services (AEROSPACE magazine is only available in digital form).
Branches are the Society’s local presence and they are encouraged to establish relationships with aerospace organisations in the vicinity. As a result, members have unparalleled opportunities to interact with other professionals and get involved with Society activities in the area. In addition, Branch initiatives promote and focus attention on local aerospace issues.
The Centennial Scholarship Fund was created in 2003 to reward endeavour and achievement in aerospace and aviation across the globe – from help with university tuition fees through research grants to bursaries for trainee pilots, to name but a few proposed awards. To date numerous scholarships have been awarded to Australian applicants from QUT, RMIT and UNSW.
The Society’s Careers Centre provides expert information and personalised support for members at all stages of their career, helping you to make informed decisions about education, training, employment and development. The Airbus Business Suite and the Members’ Bar provide internet access, comfortable surroundings and refreshments if you are visiting London.
